About Us

Meet the caring people who will nurture your mental health.

Hello! I’m Jo

Founder of Elephant in the Room Psychotherapy Ltd.

BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist & EMDR Practitioner.

My passion is to provide high quality, effective and responsive therapy to those in need. I have over twenty-five years experience of working with people experiencing mental health difficulties, in a variety of fields. I have worked in residential settings, high-security establishments and community services.

I aim to provide individuals with a confidential and therapeutic space to explore their issues in a non-judgemental setting. Elephant in the Room Psychotherapy Ltd. also continues to build partnerships with companies, both large and small (including NHS) to help break down the stigma of mental health. Elephant in the Room Psychotherapy Ltd. aims to start to normalise discussing mental health and encourage us all to engage in compassionate and meaningful conversations.

We believe that a simple and caring conversation can make a huge difference in people’s lives and overall experience.

Hi! I am Chris

Associate of Elephant in the Room Psychotherapy Ltd.
BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist
I am an Accredited BABCP Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and Registered Mental Health nurse.
I have over 20 years of experience within the NHS working as a CBT therapist for the last 9 years treating people with OCD, social anxiety, PTSD, panic disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, specific phobias, body-dysmorphic disorder, low mood /depression and low self-esteem.
I have experience of working with stroke survivors and carers in acceptance and adjustment to the changes in their lives. I have training in CBT for eating disorders, in particular binge eating disorder.
I am caring and compassionate in my approach to therapy and work hard to tailor evidence-based treatments to the specific needs of clients in order for them to achieve their goals.

Our Approach & Values

We all know we need to look after our bodies and eat well to maintain our physical health, but do we value our mental health equally? This relates to how we feel about and view ourselves, our place in the world and our relationships.

Our take on mental health is that we all experience mental distress at some point in our lives. This can be related to bereavement, relationship breakdown, parenting difficulties, work pressures, early life experiences, a traumatic event or a combination of issues. We often try to manage these difficulties ourselves, sometimes relying on everyday crutches to get us through such as alcohol, over working, prescriptive drugs or entering new relationships.

We also slip into denial in order to manage our lives. However, these coping strategies tend to only offer short-term relief. There comes a time when these methods are no longer working for us and we may make the decision to talk it through with an impartial person – this is where we come in.

Vicky

"I started therapy worried about not clicking with my therapist. But at all times I have felt comfortable and safe. I am blown away with the progress I have made and of how much of a massive impact this has had on me."

Alex

"This has been a great experience. I was doubtful at first but its been such a positive experience. I was able to feel comfortable, talk freely and connect with Jo. To be able to speak confidentially made it worth while."
